Secret Garden Artist Edition: 20 Drawings

The media could not be loaded.      At last! A beautiful set of artist's edition coloring prints based on Johanna Basford's fantastic coloring book adventure "Secret Garden". In the artist's edition, there are 20 beautiful prints. The format is larger than the original book at approximately 10 x 13 inches. The paper is a great weight cardstock and best of all: the prints are printed only on the front of the page. Yay! No more choices of which side or design you want to color or having to buy a second book (unless you want to, of course.)A quick check showed that my pencils, gel pens, and all markers worked well without any ink leaching through. If I decide to use watercolors, I would probably still place a sheet of freezer paper or heavy stock paper between the pages or remove the page from the book just in case something leaks through.The designs are filled with intricate details and are a mix of ones that are centered with lots of blank space around them and others that bring the design edge-to-edge. There won't be a problem with getting into the last little bits as these designs are easily pulled out from the booklet form. The publisher put these in a format that makes it easy to color, pull apart, and then frame should you wish to do so.I am so thrilled that the artist and publisher have heard and listened to the requests of those of us who love her work. I hope to see further editions of artist's sets - both for the "Secret Garden" and for the "Enchanted Forest" and any future coloring books Ms. Basford designs.I further hope that other artists and publishers take note of how appreciated this style of book is for colorists. We spend a lot of time and money with our hobby and want good materials. Designs can be very pretty but if they are difficult to work with, a lot of us will simply pass.As Ms. Basford's original book set the high standard for adult coloring books to follow, this artist's edition sets another standard for high quality, coloring sets suitable for framing.

I love this book. I have the regular edition but Emily the illustrator on YouTube had 5 part coloring video of the artist edition of the the owl in this book using prismacolor pencils. It’s really nice to have larger pictures to color. The pics in this book are quite a bit bigger than regular edition.

WOW !! What a great coloring book. The designs are awesome and definitely an ADULT coloring book. Intricate designs that will force you to think about what colors you are going to use and let your imagination run wild. The CARD STOCK that it is printed on is awesome and great for framing. All designs are printed on one side so you do not have to pick which one you will frame or give away. Many videos on how to color these designs and all you need to is go to Youtube and search "SECRET GARDEN" and you will get to watch many videos on these pic's. I have been collecting coloring books for about a year now and this is definitely the BEST on the market. What I do is scan the pic I am about to color and print it out on good paper and practice what colors I am going to use before I start coloring on the actual print, that way I do not make a mistake on the original and ruining it. I love this so much I purchased 2 of them, one is a Christmas gift. You have nothing to lose as you can return it with no questions asked. I am an experienced watercolour artist, but occasionally I want to de-stress and just play with paints without having to go to the trouble of thinking about composition or drawing first. I purchased this book as it is printed on higher quality thicker paper, on one side only, that will take a liquid medium without cockling. It's not watercolour paper as such, more like a quality card stock, so you won't get the vibrancy or translucency that watercolour paper provides, but for 'relaxation colouring' it does the job well. I love Johanna Basford's illustrations, but my only complaint is that they can be a little samey, you can get fed up of colouring in endless leaves/grasses on every page, and some of the areas are just too tiny and fiddly to effectively colour in with a brush, or even a pencil. I love the idea of the book, and appreciate the quality paper...but more variety in the illustrations would be appreciated. I do understand that it is called 'Secret Garden' because all the illustrations are garden themed...but I would definately be more interested in a book that contained several different themes rather than just one.

One of the problems with the original Secret Garden (and Enchanted Forest, too) is that the images are printed on both sides of a page, which makes using alcohol markers impossible as they bleed through and ruin the image on the next (or previous) page. The only options were to photocopy the pages you want to color or purchase two copies of the book. Or just use pencils, gel pens, or (some) water-based markers that aren't as prone to bleed through as alcohol markers.This new "Artist's Edition" solves that dilemma. Not only are the images printed on one side only, the paper is thicker and of much higher quality. The page size is also larger and the pages are removable for framing.Granted, there are only 20 images, but the ability to use whatever coloring medium one wants makes it totally worth it. Can't wait for a similar edition of Enchanted Forest!

Lovely book and good paper

Came at a decent time, wasn’t really expecting it to come asap. When it did come, there was a stain. Product might have been used or something since it showed a fair amount of wear and tear, that’s on me though I didn’t check. Still a good purchase, none of the pictures had colourings which makes this purchase a 4 star review.

Melhor do que esperava. A espessura do papel é incrível: aceita várias técnicas de colorido, do lápis às tintas. As folhas podem ser destacadas podendo ser emolduradas em bonitos quadros. O tamanho do livro é bem maior do que os livros normais da série. O único porém é que algumas ilustrações do livro normal que ocupam página dupla foram divididas pela metade uma vez que as ilustrações foram impressas somente na página da direita sem nada no verso. Mas mesmo assim é incrível e recomendo.

Mi hanno regalato per l'uso questo Giotto 240800 Pastelli Di Natura, 3.8 mm, Confezione da 36  che è perfetto. Mi sono rilassato? No, perché gli spazi da colorare non finiscono mai. Ma io sono notoriamente una persona impaziente, quindi se:1) Avete bisogno di rilassarvi2) Nonostante ciò vi ritenete persone pazienti e metodicheallora compratelo insieme ai colori e divertitevi! Quite simply marvellous. This is a no-nonsense colouring book printed on thick stock paper suitable for all kinds of mediums. (Acrylics, please be a little careful and keep a sheet under the page) It consists of a selection of drawings from her Secret Garden. Do remember that this is a no fuss colouring book, so there is not front page, no contents page et al. You open the book and start colouring from the first page right until the end. There have been some comments that a spiral binding would have been better. Yes, that is true but I found the binding quite all right. Once done you can simply tear off the page and frame it. The printing is beautiful, the page quality is great and the illustrations are off course, enchanting.
