New Order: photographs by Kevin Cummins

This book is very personal and intimate view of the relationship between Kevin Cummins and each member of the band New Order. There is a great selection of artefacts that Cummins has collected over a number of year of photographing the band. The relationship between Cummins as a photographer and a friend of the band members is very apparent in the communication of the photographs. Cummins's photographs are more than images printed in a book they are pictures they tell a story and that narrative is told excellently. If I am to choose a favourite picture from his book then it will be of Gillian Gilbert playing Bernard's cherry red Gibson SG. These are outstanding pictures made in the film era where you only had 36 exposures on a film and had to change film after completing the 36 exposures, Cummins for me is a master of his trade to have captured these pictures with the limitations of film and stage lighting. I would thoroughly recommend this book to add to your collection if you are a fan of the band and Cummins's photography.

Having purchased Kevin Cummins similar Joy Division book a few years ago I was hoping this would be an equally as good addition to my collection - I actually think it's even better. A great collection of not just great old and a new photographs of the band, management etc but again the addition of some interesting memorabilia items photographed (one quite rude to the author from Hooky!) too all of which add to uniqueness of this excellent book. New interviews with all band members on a one to one revealed a few new insights into the goings on at the (I will leave you to enjoy) and even more so with the Hooky split in mind. Book is now pride of place on the coffee table for the next few months - Great book, great price and one of the greatest bands ever. Enjoy

Love New Order and Joy Division. Had the Kevin Cummins Joy Division book bought for me by my God daughter and it's amazing. Sadly this tome seems like the literary equivalent of those albums that are released shortly after the demise of an artist!
