Ya gotta kinda wanna read about extreme violence
I must admit I do like the "who done it" aspect of this series. But I am just amazed at the imagination (hopefully it is imagination and not based on fact!) of Chris Carter. How does he conjure up such gruesome ways to murder someone???I am currently reading the fourth in the series, not thinking too much on the "gruesomeness" but on the twists and turns of the story and the developing characters. However, why are words such as "got to", "want to", "kind of" replaced constantly with gotta, wanna, kinda?Poetic licence at times, said in context at times...but all the time??? Sorry, just a bit annoying. But, I will read the whole series!

a review
If you like bloody, ultra-violent crimes, then this book is your favorite story. It has interesting story plot, the pace is good, the plot has enough twists to keep you reading and wanting to finish it.The write has a background of criminal psychology and experience in that field and you can see that in his writing and his cases. He can describe the most violent crimes from the point of view of the police investigators. The killers are not flat stereotypes, but they have a multifaceted background.

What a ride!!!!!!!!!!
This is the first book that I have read of this author, but will certainly not be the last,The Night Stalker commences with a rush on page one and does not let up until the last page. It is the type of book that you can immerse yourself in and block out everything around you.Well done to the author in writing such a great read.

Best ever!!
Oh Chris.....you did it again. Kept me up late all night reading your book. I could not put it down. Over 400 pages in 2 nights. These stories jump out at you and keep you turning the pages saying "just one more chapter". Sick twisted plot as usual. Best serial killer stories EVER!!!!

My Night Was Stalked
I couldn’t put this down and completed it in one sitting! With more twists and turns than a virtuoso violin concerto playing in your head while wandering through art gallery; Mr Carter has delivered yet another mind shattering, skin crawling (and that’s a good thing) masterminded piece of storytelling. Each book we find out more about Hunter and each book the villains become more vile. Could Hunter be a relation of Sherlock Holmes? Possibly, certainly the way his brain works....but unlike Sherlock you don’t want to punch Hunter in the face...and I love Mr Holmes too by the way!

Rotten
Another nasty misogynistic “thriller” about a serial killer with the usual cod psychology and no real explanation why the killer waits years before going on his killing spree. The bizarre methods of murder are supposed to reflect comments made by the victim about love and supposedly punishing his (dead) mother for her infidelity but they just disgusting. The author still succumbs to the occasional thumb nail portrait of an incidental character and indeed we get Hunter’s potted history twice! These books make me feel as if I could write better than this.

Breaks the mould again
Bars very high with his previous books but this one turns the crime genre on its head, with not just curved balls but a whole change in the structure of any book of this type I've read before. Beautifully written and with the signature cut to the bone realism Carter's known for, you're not disappointed. Even at times led to feel you've guessed what's happened, as is the case with most writers when you get their style of writing, you're led down a new avenue that's neither convoluted nor distracting but leads to several "oooh" moments as you see the bigger picture unfolding. Five stars.

Gripping
Really enjoyed this book actually, it was gripping and chilling with just the right amount of description of any violence.I read thousands of these type of books, and this has been the best in a long time. Although the main detective obviously has a bit of back story, it wasn't endless paragraphs about him being damaged or traumatised and he didn't have a drinking problem or be 'endearingly' grumpy with everyone as so many are now! So it was a refreshing change. I also particularly approve of the ending - without giving away a spoiler it didn't succumb to the same old cliché that so many of this genre do.

So glad I discovered Chris Carter
I got an email from Amazon recommending the Crucifix Killer. As I was going on holiday I downloaded it to my kindle. I really enjoyed it and when I got back looked up Chris Carter and his other books. I haven't read them in order I don't think, but Hunter and Garcia have me hooked. I have just finished the Night Stalker and it kept me on the edge of ...my bed I have to say. I only read in my bed. It's the only place I get peace. This was a bit scary in parts I have to say. People who have read this will understand when I say I'm so glad I have a divan bed, no spaces underneath...lolI think this was my 3rd Chris Carter book, and I think I have a couple left on my kindle. If you haven't tried his books, don't wait any longer. Get them now. If you like crime stories, you'll love these.Chris Carter is a great author, and Chris Hunter and Garcia, steal the show.So Chris Carter, I hope you've got plenty more ideas in the pipe. I'm having withdrawal symptons already.
