What you need to know about the release liner
This tape works well for metal HVAC ducts, but here's a tip on how to avoid a king-sized struggle getting the release liner off: Don't cut the tape with scissors or a utility knife! If you do this, you'll have a hard time picking away at the corner of the tape to get the release liner started so you can pull it off. Instead of cutting with scissors or knife, grip the tape and tear it. It tears very easily, and the tearing action will get the release liner started for you. If you don't like the torn edge, you can trim it with an old pair of scissors after the release liner is started. Once you get the liner started, I recommend not removing it all at once on longer pieces of tape. This mastic tape is *extremely* sticky. It's best to take the liner off bit at a time as you go along placing the strip in place on the duct seam. This avoids the nasty problem of the tape sticking to something you didn't intent it to stick to. If you don't believe this, you will after your first try with this stuff. I wipe down the surface (galvanized sheet steel ducts in my case) with lacquer thinner or acetone (whatever I have on hand) and a paper towel. Your ducts may look clean, but if you give them a quick wipe-off and look at the paper tower you'll see that they most likely are not very clean. Both acetone and lacquer thinner dry super quickly, but neither is very healthy so take precautions. Be sure to squeegee the tape down after its in place with a bondo spreader if you have one, or something similar. Even a scrap of lumber will work as long as there's no sharp edge to tear the tape. Finally, with all tapes of any kind, it's a good idea to avoid placing the tape so that the edge of a strip falls on a sharp bend. This has such great adhesion that it might not matter but better safe than sorry - taping your ducts is not something you want to do again if you can avoid it.

Wicked Sticky
Never used before. My air handler sits in my garage so I put up some insulation board around it. Tried other aluminum tape (non mastic), but never worked well. Would peal off in days or weeks. In South Florida nothing works in the humidity. This stuff however would stick to a jellyfish in an oil slick. Expensive stuff but worth it. Do not try to cut all the way through. Nick the side with knife or scissors, then pull apart. Comes apart very easy and tearing it helps the backing separate. Make sure you have it wear you want it. Once it goes on it ain't comin off. Also; find something to hang it on while using. I set this down on its side and it stuck to the surface with just the edges of the roll.

Works great
Purchased so I could tape up a spot that our HVAC contractor missed (and also seal up other leaky ducts), and quickly realized the quality of this stuff surprises what our contractor used significantly.Good adhesion, feels like it has some strength to it, and was very easy to cut and apply. Rare that a product worked so well that I was compelled to go leave a good review.

I purchased this product after much internet research; I'm trying to improve the efficiency of my new heating & central AC distribution systems. So far I have used it on two duct boots in my bedroom and am seeing better air flow from the vents (I compared the air flow by attached ribbons to the grills before and after taping the boot with this mastic tape). Pulling off the grills provided quite an education on poor construction techniques. One you tube video stressed the need to clean the boot thoroughly with Acetone and I took my time prepping the surface prior to attaching the tape. The tape is thick and the adhesive is very sticky, not like anything I've ever used. You need to take your time to do a professional job using this high end product. The price is not cheap, but I've ordered another roll since I'm planning to use the mastic tape to begin to seal the duct connections in the attic as soon as it cools off late September early October. My attic has minimal flooring and is a trussed system. I'm hoping to be able to do this job myself. We'll see, after all, I am a senior citizen now.
