Great Guide
This little book went to Japan with my coworker and he gave it two thumbs way way up! Proved invaluable for not just the food but customs of the Japanese people!

Nice book with beautiful pictures
The description of food seems accurate. The pictures are beautiful. It is a book to bring to Japan to explore each single dish

Bloody Brilliant Book
Honestly - I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. It's full of anecdotes, local customs, foods, regional produce and meals...also great coverage of beer, wine and Sake! The Editorial, pictures and descriptions are all 1st class - a perfect Lonely Planet publication. It's great as a standalone read...or as part of planning a trip

Too Heavy To Carry Too Little Information
I expected better from Lonely Planet. The book is much too heavy to take on a trip. The spreads are large type and small information. And who needs the full page photos (badly printed on thick paper). I thought I was buying a useful traveling companion. I’d be better off with a Japanese cookbook because there are not enough photos of the dishes named. I’m returning the book. Too bad. Gave it two stars because they tried.
