At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry

One of the dark secrets in Christianity today is that well more than half of those men who claim to be a Christians "struggle" with pornography. Regardless of how we got into it, we are just as easily trapped into its iron grip as anyone else, and those who try to break away, once they come to their senses, find the road to recovery filled with land mines and a society that practically forces sexual idolatry down our throats. Sadly, many Christian women are also in a battle against porn, and rarely have anywhere to turn for help.I have personally read a number of books, listened to all kinds of folks talk about this, gone through counseling several times, and been a part of several recovery groups in multiple cities. In other words, the vast majority of "Christian" solutions are man-made and at best attempts at behavior modifications or excuses.Steve Gallagher and his Pure Life Ministries staff have used this book and its teachings for decades to point those willing and committed to a biblical solution that God has designed all along, rather than just offering excuses and lies and minimizing the problem. Don't read this if you are not serious about change. Gallagher talks straight and tells you from the start what kind of hard steps you will need to take to get your life back on track with God and become free from porn.Most porn addicts and regular users have little idea just how deep into hell they have stepped until their lives come crashing down. If you are viewing porn, whether a Christian or not, you are already going in a destructive direction and are probably lying to yourself about how deeply you're hooked. I don't care if you're a casual Christian or a pastor or elder - we are all vulnerable and lie to ourselves and others when we get caught in this net.If any of this speaks to you, pick up a copy of this book in your media you will use and get an honest look at what you are up against. It could save your life, but what you need to do will take guts and commitment to God to make changes to your heart that are real and long-term. Do it!

The author feels that believers who do not repent of their sexual immorality could be cast into hell. Author also feels that unmarried men with sexual urges and problems with pornography should "just stop it" and after approximately 3 weeks the urges will fade. Questions for author: 1. Are sexual sins worse than other sins?? 2. Did Christ die on the cross to forgive us for some sins, but not others? 3. When Christians die having not repented of certain sins, will they be judged in the same manner as unbelievers? This book was life saving for me. It lays out clearly, what steps that need to be taken, to receive the promises of God. Sexual sin is rampant in society, and it’s just as rampant in the church. This author offers biblical solutions for the freedom, that God promises for His people. He shows how this freedom is only available, if certain conditions are met, according to God’s word. Freedom only comes from doing it God’s way! Bondage only comes from doing it our way! Steve does a fantastic job at letting the reader know, that the two primary issues involving any sin is “pride” and “self-centeredness”. If you want a book, that doesn’t play games and blames everything else, for your issues, then this is that book. Fantastic job Steve. I’m looking forward to reading your other books. God bless you!

This book is a great read. I have been dealing with a lot of things in this book. I have been blessed to know that I'm not alone. How many churches have men that are dealing with sexual sins? I dare to say all of them. The sad thing is no one wants to talk about it. I'm thankful I have a church that sees this as a has a problem that needs to be fixed. I thank God for giving me a church that willing to help me and not condemn me.

The book is very well written and does a very good job of hammering home how destructive sexual addictions are while also emphasizing that there is grace from God despite failings. It can be a painful process to recover from sexual addiction and this book is one of the few I would recommend for someone truly seeking victory in this area of their life.

Aside from the rather explicit examples which I still can't determine whether or not are necessary especially for men struggling with this issue which is about 99% of men today -- Christian or not)it hits the nail on the head instead of dancing around the issue. Some books teach methods of dealing with the temptation where this book exposes the root of that temptation. After 15 yrs of this treatment from my husband(even milder than any of the descriptions within the pages of this book I determined to leave him. I had tried to get him to read this book years before I got to this point but it wasn't until I was ready to take our children & walk out the door that he woke up to what this does to families. Almost two years has passed and the changes have gone from rapid & immediate needed changes to the building of a new foundation with which to live by. My husband accredits this book with really reaching the heart of the issue. As a matter of fact he gave his copy to his brother & this is the second one he had me purchase b/c he wanted a "refresher" to make sure the enemy hadn't regained any footholds. He has really been freed & though he is still working on "renewing his mind" and replace all the years of garbage with the Truth this has definitely been a life changing, marriage & family saving tool. He is now able to take responsibility for his struggle instead of blaming me. Which has caused him to take responsibility in practically every other area of our relationship. He has also gone from treating me like meat, an object, or his toy to treating me like a partner & helpmate who is a valuable & integral part of his life! It has truly exposed that sin that the enemy was using to destroy us & has changed the course of history for our relationship & for the future of our children.
