It's construction time
This starts out more like a session of technical lego for adults rather than a bike. God forbid you get this for your teenage child because they ain't gonna help you for what feels like a 3/4 hour session in a technology lesson. I'm moaning a little too much perhaps for I hated technology lessons with their spanners and hammers and screwdrivers and rivets and allen keys and gods did contructing this bike bring back memories of frustration and boredom? Once put together you'll have to adjust the breaks which is not the easiest on the hands. Also the tyres need a good pumping from complete deflation - good exercise. I'd recommend a large pump here - takes a lot to pump to 50 psi.The bike feels good to ride. It's not too heavy, the gears change reasonably smoothly, the breaks are as stiff as you make them. The handlebars are a good distance from the seat so you don't feel like a boy racer. The seat feels like the first stages of a colonoscopy. Most bike seats are like that though eh. It's a good bike for the price and once you've been riding for a week you'll forget the hours of torture building the thing. A good beginner bike.

Great budget bike
So what can you expect for a 18sp Shimano based bike, coming in under £180? Actually something pretty reasonable. It's definitely no frills, and you can spot where some corners have been cut to come in at that price point. However with the cost of living crisis, and tight purse strings, this i might be the perfect things to get someone on a tight budget to a cost effective mode of transport.Unboxing========Came very well packed, lots of protective cardboard ensuring your new bike isn't damaged in transit. Took a few minutes to cut the cable ties that held stuff together, and then I could lay it out.Assembly========There are instructions, however they cover multiple models of bike, and not specific to this one, which is a shame, again, given the budget nature, hardly a show stopper. I skimmed them, and then ventured onto assembly. Most of the tools are included, a multi-spanner and an allen key. I needed a screwdriver for reflectors, and a pump to add additional air in the tyres. Assembly took me about 20 minutes. Even the brakes and gears were setup correctly, no adjustment required. Assembly should be within the grasp of most people, or know someone that can help them with something like this. It's a shame they don't have YouTube video links for each model of bike along with common troubleshooting. This would really enhance the buying of flat packed bikes. Hopefully that's something the manufacturer or distributor will consider.Ride===Actually not bad. The Shimano click shiftier worked well, brakes reasonably good (cable operated rim brakes front and back), and weight wise it's light too.Finish=====Not going to win any awards, but given the budget nature, it's within, or above the expectations I had.Summary========If you are looking for a bike and need to watch the budget, this is a pretty decent choice. Need to be a little bit handy (or know someone) to assemble it, but the results are good. It's very competitive compared to pre-assembled stuff from H*lFords in this price range. You also get the satisfaction and confidence and feelgood factor when assembling it yourself.

Arrives part-assembled
When the bike arrives it is only part-assembled, with only one wheel attached. It comes well packaged with plenty of cardboard inserts to protect the frame and working parts. Very minimal plastic packaging. Fortunately there is a manual and the final assembly is easy enough, albeit I made a couple of errors (eg pedals on the wrong way round) which I had to go back and correct. The tools are provided, although you’ll need your own screwdriver. The whole thing took me probably about 90 minutes but this was my first time.So on the plus side, final assembly is relatively straightforward. There are reflector panels attached to the spokes of both wheels. Additional front and rear reflector panels are also provided, and there’s even a bell. The pedals are comfortable and the brakes and gears work well.I actually love the styling: the white frame and Wildtrak logos are pretty cool.Less impressive is the saddle which looks badly made and is pretty uncomfortable. It also happens to be bolted on so tight that I’ve been unable to remove it to attach a more comfortable replacement. The suspension is okay. The positioning of the brake levers and gear shifters could be better, as they’re quite low down. I’ve yet to work out if it’s possible to rotate them upwards so it’s less of a stretch to operate them. All in all there are definite pros and cons to this bike, so I’m giving it three stars.

Quite a lot of assembly needed.🚲🚲🚲🚲
Wildtrak - Alloy Mountain Bike, Adult, 26 Inch, 18 Speed, Shimano shifters – WhiteA basic style bike which comes partly assembled. There is an extensive manual and building guide, plus it came with an allen key and a spanner. We felt that you needed to be fairly mechanically competent to build the bike. We made several errors along the way which needed sorting. Once assembled the brakes needed adjusting and the gears tweaked. As we lacked confidence we had help from a bike expert to make sure the bike was safe to ride. The tyres need pumping up (pump not provided) this is due to air pressures during transport. We didn’t have a pump so had to source one for this project. The seat is very small, hard and thin and we are already looking to change it for a softer gel style seat. Both the seat and handle bars can be adjusted in height. We had a little test ride and the bike was fine for what we needed. If you are looking for a basic adult bike with plenty of gears and you are happy to do some self-assembly then this bike might be for you.
