A Tale of Two Dentuso Knives
Original Manual Folding Knife Serrated Tanto D2:Unique Opening/Closing MechanismI don’t know that much about knives even though I collect them and have several. What I do know is that this Dentuso Original Manual Folding Knife works like no other knife I have ever seen. It flips open with one hand only, if you flick your wrist just right, using the flipper nub on the blade. There are also two studs on opposite sides of the blade that you can use. What I find unique is the ambidextrous release/locking slide buttons on both sides of the knife body. I can easily close the blade by just pulling the button rearward with my right thumb, being right handed, and twisting my hand, palm down. The first time I did this, I saw the blade falling towards my fingers and before I could react the blade came to an abrupt stop from an internal brake. I then closed it the rest of the way with my left hand. I figured out that you can open the blade with the same button. I found it difficult to open the knife with only my thumb on the ambidextrous release, but, worked just fine when I added my index finger on the other side of the release, as well. Pulling the buttons rearward with both my thumb and index finger allows you to flip it open with much less wrist action than conventionally. The blade will not lock until you release the buttons. Suffice it to say that it will take a little practice to master these moves, but when you have, you can entirely control this knife with one hand.Brand new, it appears very well made and robust while being compact with a substantial handle and grip. It trips the scale at 5.5 ounces, which is almost two ounces more than my actual EDC knife. D2 steel and G10 grips seem to have become the standard in modern budget knives. I have other knives that I consider to be beautiful works of art. IMHO… This Dentuso Original Manual Folding Knife is not in that category. It is more utilitarian. I have other knives that have a spring assist and snap open much better than this one. But, every time a take a really close look and practice with this knife, I have the impression that it is very high quality. The blade is very sharp right out of the box.I’m not a fan of pocket/belt clips, but this one is reversible and placed at the correct end of the grip for my style of pocket carry.Mako Plain Drop Stainless Steel:Mostly Excellent Small Pocket KnifeThis Dentuso Mako Plain Drop Stainless Steel is tiny. It flips open with one hand, only if you flick your wrist just right, using the flipper nub on the blade. There are also two studs on opposite sides of the blade that you can use. The Mako does not have the ambidextrous release/locking slide buttons. It is a simple frame lock design. The small size of this knife make one handed opening challenging because it is difficult to get good purchase on the frame.Brand new, it appears very well made and robust while being compact with a streamlined handle and grip. It trips the scale at 2.5 ounces, which is 1.2 ounces less than my actual EDC knife. Best I can tell, the exploded parts diagram in the ad-listing is not accurate for this Mako Plain Drop Stainless Steel, which is made from a blade and two frame sides, that are all made from AUS-8 Stainless steel. It is unique from the other knives featured in this listing.I have other knives that I consider to be beautiful works of art. IMHO… This Dentuso Mako Plain Drop Stainless Steel knife is not in that category. It is more utilitarian. I have other knives that have a spring assist and snap open much better than this one. But, every time a take a really close look and practice with this knife, I have the impression that it is very high quality. Dentuso folding knife with g10 scaling tactical knife
The scaling portion of the blade can get in the way during normal use. The handle provides a good grip and good protection for my fingers. The blade flicks out with reasonable effort and locks securely; it takes me two hands to close this knife, but I expect most can close it with one hand. The tanto point provides a decent whittling edge and good leverage for utility uses.

Perfect size
This has become my EDC knife. It is sharp out of the box and looks good. It's easy to open with a flick of the thumb but I'm not worried about it opening accidentally. It has taken a little abuse since I've had it and it is still sharp and in good shape.

Good ambidextrous knife but wouldn't be my EDC
It took me a few days to get used to this knife. I have smaller hands, but the ergonomics aren't my favorite. I find it difficult to open the knife with only my thumb on the ambidextrous release and I usually have to use my pointer on the other side of the release as well. I also can't open it by flicking the flipper alone. You have to add some wrist action as well. Most other knives I've used don't need that extra bit. It also is on the thick side for my taste. All that being said it's sturdy feeling, has a reversable clip and ambidextrous release, seems sharper than normal, and is priced well for what it is.

Uncomfortably large and heavy
The handle on this knife is larger and heavier than necessary. Some people might like that, but I want something more compact and lightweight

Solid knife
Feels sturdy and well-made. The G10 scaling provides a good grip, but it takes some getting used to for smooth opening and closing. A reliable option for outdoor adventures.

Excellent, very sharp knife (but quite bulky)
This knife has definitely proven to be better than I expected. Visually, the shallow grind angle of the blade made me believe it wouldn't be very sharp out of the box but I was definitely wrong about that. Overall, the knife is bulkier and heavier than I would prefer, but it has performed flawlessly for every task I've thrown at it so far. The locking mechanism works well despite not being the style I would prefer.Ultimately, this knife is way above average and a really good value under $40.
