Ampro T19602 3-In-1 Retriever Claw and Lighted Magnetic Pick-Up Tool

This is a neat little tool and helped make a potentially frustrating mistake in to a minor inconvenience. I dropped a spark plug without seating it first, and instead of having to fish around forever I was able to get it pulled out quick and easy. Also helped me grab an important screw I dropped behind the console.If you're a little clumsy like I am this is worth the spend. Just avoiding the frustration of one instance would have been enough to sell it for me, but now I won't work on the car without it close at hand.

It works as advertised, has a bright light, is reasonably long, is very flexible/malleable, and the claw works... well, like a claw. The only reason I didn't give it a fifth star is that you can't have the light on it and use the claw at the same time. You can look or you can grab, but not both. If you are trying to grab something in a very dark place, the light will not help you. If they could mount the light along the shaft of the grasper, it would be nearly perfect. If they would also make the grasping plunger into a ring shape that you can slip your thumb through, that would make it perfect.

Honestly wasn't expecting much, but it has a good, firm grip when picking up small items. The magnet is surprisingly strong and works well. Could be longer, and the "claw" might damage delicate items but otherwise, very pleased. Bought a second one.

This tool was exactly what I needed! The old-school brass stopper in my tub drain broke off and was stuck in the drainpipe. I managed to make out where it was with the flashlight attachment, and then took that off and grabbed it with the claw! So glad I don't have to try to dismantle the 1950's plumbing behind my tub!

The retriever claw is pretty self explanatory. You snake the flexible cable into a tight spot, press the button, which opens the claw, maneuver it to grab what you are retrieving, and release the button. The added light is nothing short of genius if you need light someplace where a flashlight won't reach. Simply screw the light attachment onto the end of the claw, and then pressing the button activates the light. As Jack Black might say; "totally brill!"

I like the idea of the 3-in-1, and it works as advertised. Some reviewers seem disgruntled by the fact that you can't use the claw with the light. That's true. When you screw on the light/magnet attachment, the claw trigger acts as the switch (I think the claw actually pushes out and presses an on/off button inside the light/magnet accessory). My only gripe is that the light/magnet attachment is unnecessarily large. There's about 1" between the base up to the magnet that just isn't really used for anything... Just empty space. For tools like this, 1" of non-flexing plastic can be the difference between getting the magnet to that pesky screw, or not at all. Still, it should be fine for most all applications. All in all, a great product and seemingly well-built.

Fun to play with already. Retrieved an earring piece from the deep slot where the dryer vent is inserted immediately after receiving it. Worked like a charm! Wish I had it during some car work I did a few months back to retrieve screws and bolts that I dropped in tight crevices!
