UPDATED UPDATE....
UPDATE to my UPDATE: I was so tempted to delete my first update... or this whole thing and start over out of pure embarrassment. I'm a professional and know sound, but apparently not my new laptop so much *insert eyeroll*. In short, since this whole review is far too long, I again stand by my original review on the 1st of 3 pairs of KZ AS10's; Incredible pair of iems. The 2nd pair, there was definitely something wrong with them. On stage and off there was a notable problem. The 3rd pair, I have admittedly not tried on stage yet (just got them today). I only plugged them into my newer laptop, and turned on Spotify. Although they were better than the damaged 2nd pair, something still wasn't right as I said. Something in the back of my brain was not sitting right with this however. I knew that my iems and other headphones I own could only be as good as limitations of the device they are operating from. Nothing I plugged into this laptop seemed to sound good. Didn't make sense. Its a new gaming ASUS FX705 laptop. The sound capabilities are going to better than others (one of the reasons I purchased it; for recording purposes). I fished, searched, Googled... and finally found it. Opened up the DTS HeadphoneX EQ and BOOM!!!! I jumped (iems were in my ears with music playing). Daaaang, now THAT's what I remember from the original pair of AS10 I bought! Superior stuff right there, y'all. So relieved. Let this be a lesson -- Your iems can only work their full potential if what you have them plugged into allows it. Now go plug these into something awesome and dance a little :)UPDATE: I stand by my original review of the (red) KZ A10's I purchased. Only problem is that I sold them to another musician because I decided I wanted the green color. No big deal, I thought. Sold them in about 5 minutes of posting, and purchased the new exact same pair in the green color. Received them quickly, plugged them in... but something wasn't right. That new pair seemed off and not as full as the pair I had just sold and used. I thought maybe I had gotten use to the first pair being completely burned in. so I burned the new pair in, used them on stage a few times, and finally had it. I took 'em home, plugged into my laptop and flipped on Spotify and realized the bass was not only missing as I suspected, but the top end was "raping my ears", as another reviewer so eloquently stated. I hoped that something was just defective with this pair, and sent them back... after ordering a $35 updated cord first to see if that helped. It did a smidge, but there was definitely something wrong with the ears themselves. I immediately ordered another green pair and they arrived quickly (Thank you, Amazon), plugged these new jobbies in and... yeah, No. The bass is missing again. Not nearly as bad as before, but for a 5 driver, its almost like the #1 & #2 bass drivers just aren't functioning, and seems to distort when any sort of bass hits. And, I don't mean like hip hop, thumping bass, just the normal range stuff. And once again, the high end also seems more abrasive than the original pair. Not sure what I am going to do at this point. I still think the separation and clarity of these iem's are amazing and unmatched to anything I've used before, however these bass and sharp treble negatives might outweigh the positives. Order yet Another pair? Try buying the Red color again and see if for some odd reason, they are just different??? They shouldn't be, but who knows. At any rate, after owning 3 pairs, I can definitely say they haven't been consistent which leaves me hesitant to recommend these anymore. Good luck, and I'm interested to see how this model plays out over time with other users.ORIGINAL REVIEW: I'm a musician and vocalist and I need iem's for their intended purpose... live/stage performance use. I stuck these bad boys in my ears the first time and wanted to just cry from joy and relief. I have owned and used some really bad trash and some okay but satisfactory ears in my time, and these are what I've been after but thought I couldn't afford. I don't have the cash flow for 1964's or UE's, and Westone 10's and Shure 215's have done the job just fine, but these KZ A10's are soooo much better AND Cheaper. I have, until now, not used such incredible sounding ears in this price range... or even several ranges above that. If you are on stage, in a band, you know how important it is to hear each instrument or voice clearly, cleanly, no muddiness. These do all that with detail I didn't know I missing before. There is ALSO a warmth that comes out of these that isn't fake sounding, overwhelming or mushy. There is just the right amount of Bass. I realize we don't want thumping subs in our stage iem's but it's definitely there and somehow doesn't overpower. I use these to enjoy my favorite Spotify playlists too and totally love them in this setting as well. The detail is amazing and I highly recommend these to anyone who needs quality but can't drop the funds for other ridiculously priced ears.-- Michelle

KZ's Best. A Refined All Rounder!
The media could not be loaded. KZ is a company that has developed a reputation over the years. These past few years, they've really been looking to make a splash. By offering iems with 5 drivers per side (their 10 line), they've really been pushing the meaning of price to performance. I'm happy to announce that with their new AS10, KZ is once again pushing their limits. In short, it's a fantastic iem for an even better price.Packaging, Isolation, Build QualityKZ is typically known for their sparse packaging but surprisingly, that isn't the case this time around. They really stepped up the presentation with the box. However, the accessories are still a little bit sparse. They offer a new upgraded braided cable that feels very nice, though besides that, your tips are the only other packaging material. Isolation is quite good, and the iems feel light on the ears. The tip nozzles have a partial lip so tips don't slip. It's a small little feature that is really quite a surprise, and very helpful. In terms of build quality, the iems feel quite robust. I really like the see through plastic aesthetic and the black back contrasting it. The iems feel very solid and it doesn't feel like other cheaply alternatives. They are very attractive in real life.SoundOverall, the AS10 seems to have a slightly warmer tilt to the notorious ZS5 and ZS6 line. Those two headphones were extremely hit or miss for users due to their piercing highs. It seems like KZ has listened, and this doesn't appear to be an issue any longer. There is an overall cohesion to the sound that is striking for this price point. Bass is tight and has as proper amount of dynamics and the mids and highs perform admirably without creating too much fatigue.Highs: The high frequency on the AS10 seems to be an area where KZ really worked on. While it loses some of its sparkling magic from the ZS5 and 6 line, it still performs decently though I will say it was my least favorite part of the spectrum. The treble seems a tad rolled off in the top which was one area I really loved about the Zs6. That being said, a large majority found issue in the ZS6's piercing treble so most people will feel more at home with the high end of the AS10.Mids: The mids on the AS10 are very natural and full bodied. They present singers with an air of realism and presence. Plenty of iems with V-shaped signatures see the vocals being overpowered by the rest of the spectrum, but the AS10 has plenty of refinement in the mids.Bass: It's interesting that the Bass on the AS10 is so good. It's an impressive feat to have a balanced armature design with such good bass response. The dynamics and impact are impressive with the Bass. It's definitely not an anemic sounding headphone. On the contrary, the AS10 has a very full bodied sound. It's a very impressively clean and tight bass.Soundstage: Equally as impressive is the soundstage. KZ has created an iem with very impressive soundstage for the money. Other offerings from similarly priced iems might sound too closed in or congested. The AS10 has great separation and staging so that when passages get complicated, the AS10 doesn't lag behind.ComparisonsIt's important to draw some comparisons from a few other iems to get a good idea of the proficiencies and maybe deficits of the AS10.ZSR: Against the ZSR, one of KZ's even more budget offering, you can see the refinement of the AS10's really shine. Though the ZSR has more pronounced bass, and a more sparkly treble, the AS 10 has plenty more detail, control, and cohesion. The ZSR is a fantastic iem for the price but the AS10 is by far the more mature and easier to listen to iem.Final Audio Heaven IV: This is where it gets interesting. I found the $200 heaven iem yo be quite magically. Delicious mids, and a very organic and lovely sound. In the mids, the FAD is definitely my pick. The AS10 has great mids but I found the FADs emphasis on the mids and naturalists a clear winner in that regard. However, I thought the FAD was a little bit light on the Bass, and overall the FAD had issues with songs with complicated passages or with too many instruments. The bass, separation and overall cohesion give the AS10 the overall win though. The AS10 is a much more versatile iem, and the Bass and dynamics really make it a more easier listen. The Heaven has it's good points but overall, is just not as flexible.ZS10: Lastly, the ZS10 iems that KZ pumped out before the AS10 shows how KZ has matured. The ZS10 was no slouch. It had fantastic bass and a very warm tilt, a 180° flip from their previous iems. The bass on the ZS10 is stronger, but overall the AS10 takes the win for me. The AS10 is just a more cohesive unit. Slightly more detail retrieval, natural sounding, and less abnormalities on the frequency response. Don't get me wrong. The ZS10's are certainly good however, the AS10 is just one sstep up higher in refinement.ConclusionTo close up, KZ has really taken another step forward. It's not beyond perfect but it is really quite good. It's an unmatched amount of cohesion and refinement from a company that already seemed to have the below $50 market figured out. For s little bit more, the AS10 really blew me away. Other iems costing several magnitudes more don't have the same refinement. I'm interested to see how the metal version sounds, and curious where KZ goes from here!
