Long lasting and my dog loves it!
I have a German Shepard who loves to chew. While he’s never had any issues with plastic chew toys in the past, I can’t help but feel concerned about him ingesting plastic pieces. That’s why I was so excited to find this chew toy that’s made of wood instead. My dog loves this toy and I feel better knowing that it shaves off bits of wood rather than plastic. It’s both safer and more natural, which gives me a piece of mind. We’ve had it for 11 months now and it’s still about the size of my hand. We tried another brand, but it only lasted a month or two. Picture is of it after 11 months. If you’re looking for a long-lasting, safe chew toy for a powerful chewer, I’d recommend this one!

Most durable chew toy I’ve found!
I’m not usually one to write reviews (I’m lazy), but I feel like I need to scream from the rooftops about this Gorilla Chew!!! I have a 3-year old Lab that is THE most insane chewer in existence. Even the heavy duty chew toys in the Bully Make subscription box have been no match for my boy, but on the recommendation from a friend with a crazy chewer Lab, I reluctantly dropped $20 on the large Gorilla Chew and it has proven itself to be some of the best money I’ve ever spent! NOTHING had held up to my dog’s teeth like this thing has! He is obsessed with it and it has more than paid for itself many times over with the peace and quiet it has provided. It’s not perfectly indestructible, but this hunk of wood is impressively durable. I love that it chips and doesn’t splinter, and I appreciate that it smells nice instead of putrid like a bully stick or pig hoof. I will absolutely keep the large Gorilla Chew around from now on! My boy loves, loves, LOVES it!

Interesting Chew; Dog Likes It!
I have a 16 month old German Shepard/Boxer mix. She is a power chewer that virtually destroys all other toys and chews that are supposed to be designed for aggressive chewers within an hour (we're fortunate she has never turned her attention to any household item). This arrived today as expected. Sydney is almost 62 pounds so I ordered the large which is very large. I wondered if I should have gone with the medium given that it was very big and very heavy. However, she has managed to move it about the house without problem and was happily gnawing away under the table as my husband and I ate dinner. I was shocked when I looked down to notice a handful of wood chips on the floor. Having read the reviews I didn't expect her to make such headway so quickly. I also expected the bits and pieces to be much smaller. They aren't huge but I did expect them to be smaller given the statements in the reviews. Since so many bits and pieces were on the floor it leads me to believe that she might not be ingesting them as she does with the small branches she picks up in our yard, however, it is something I will watch over the next couple of days. My hope is that this might be a safer alternative to the tree branches she so covets. If I come to the conclusion that I feel this is unsafe I will certainly update my review. Until then it seems like a chew that she thoroughly enjoys and is worth the money (I've spent more on things that were already destroyed).

Last more than 10 months
I was excited to try the Ware Manufacturing Gorilla Chew for my lab mix, as he loves to chew on things and I thought this would be a great long-lasting option. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the product. While my dog did love it, I noticed that it shrank pretty easily and he started coughing when he swallowed some small pieces of the wood. This made me nervous and I had to supervise him closely while he chewed on it. I don't think this is a safe option for dogs who like to chew aggressively, as they may end up ingesting harmful pieces of the wood. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this productEdit: I was wrong; my newly adopted dog has kennel cough. I thought that this java wood was the reason for my dog coughing. Now it's my dog's favorite chew. After 10 months, there are still small pieces of this wood. Will order again soon.

DANGEROUS PRODUCT, poor quality control, and unresponsive customer service
It's so challenging to find durable chew sticks for powerful chewers, so I was excited when a friend recommended this product. The first one I received (on the right in the photo) had so many sharp edges and rough cuts, that I was concerned it would damage my dog's mouth. I understand each piece of wood will vary, but it was obvious to me that with a little more care, it could have been cut and sanded to eliminate the sharp parts.Since the product was not eligible for returns, I contacted the vendor. After providing photos and several follow-up emails, the company finally - begrudgingly - sent me a replacement item after 6 weeks. The second one I received (on the left in the photo) looks totally different - a smooth stick - but unfortunately has a big split right down the middle, which seems problematic.I will update this review after seeing how this holds up to my dog's enthusiastic chewing. But I probably won't buy again because quality control on this product seems lacking and customer service is poor.Update: today I gave the stick to my dog. Two minutes flat and it had broken in half AND split off into shards (see second photo). As I feared, the split in the stick was a weak point (see first photo, stick on the left). It split just as it would if you had taken an axe to a log to create firewood. Fortunately, I was watching intently, so took it away immediately. THIS PRODUCT IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS! DO NOT BUY THIS FOR YOUR LOVED FUR FRIEND.

Smells
I'm sure this would have lasted quite a while for my 6-1/2 month old Great Pyrenees mix puppy. There was no smell, chemical or otherwise, when I took it out of the box. I gave it to her right away and she really liked it and was going to town on it. It did produce small slivers as one reviewer said but other than getting one stuck in her teeth, that seemed to be ok. However.....she came over by me and this terrible smell came with her and I figured out it was her breath, I picked up the wood chew and smelled it and ugh! Cow poop is the best way to describe it. Upside was she loved it and I think it would have occupied her for quite a while, Downside I can't take the smell, so out it goes.
