Best Robot Vacuume I have Owned
I started buying robot vacuums back when Romba S9 was the best of the best. While I loved my S9 for raw power it lacked in many other areas I had to move on. Since then, I have had mostly Roborock vacuums. I have owned the S6, S7, and S8 and while I stayed with them mostly for the dual rollers, it seems like overnight robot vacuum evolved, and now they were moping and raising mopping pads with a camera to locate pets and all kinds of bells and whistles side mopping and on and on.I tried the Dreame X30 and while it was a great vacuum it did not seem to have the same raw power as the Roborock Q Master. The Roborock Q Master sucks at object avoidance. No matter what I did or what settings I selected it would not avoid anything. I know no robot vacuum is perfect but the Q Master is listed as being smart and has a camera in theory should help it avoid cords and socks and dogs, but it does not.I picked up the L40 Dreame on sale and have been in love since. It has the raw power like the Q Master but is way smarter. I was so tired of looking around before I ran my vacuum I would clean to clean. The L40 is so much better not only does it run like a dream but I have not had it once get stuck or get something stuck in its roller. It vacuumed under my couch and then in the app at got a notification that I might have a missing item under there, it even took a picture of it so I could decide if it was worth going after. And for the 1st time besides my Romba S9, the vacuum will come back when it is full and empty itself and keep going. I have a Beagle and she shads like crazy if I skip a day of vacuuming other vacuums would get full but keep vacuuming even though they were no longer picking anything up.The mopping is also top notch and not only does it push one mop pad out to the side but it will also wiggle to get even closer. After mopping it will clean and let you know if the water was dirty enough to mop again and then go do it. The only problem is it only does this with genius clean not customized. Also, the side brush no longer spins on the carpet by default. You have to do some trickery to get it to spin on the carpet. Which is stupid to me, I looked around and they saw this is because it's not really needed on carpet and keeps the motor from burning out. I do not agree.I would give it 5 stars but Amazon delivered it to me damaged, and will not replace the item they just want me to return it for a refund. The problem I got it on sale close to Prime Day and it is no longer on sale. So, if I returned it, I would have to pay more to buy it again. If it was a small amount like 25 bucks, I could see that, but it’s like 350. The policy does say I can get an item replaced within 30 days but they are not budging. Everything works besides the cleaning solution injection. So, if you are thinking about buying it, I would say pull the trigger. If you can buy it from someone other Than Amazon that’s even better. Since they will punish you if you happen to find a deal on their site.Update****While I could not get Amazon to do the right thing and replace the item without me returning it. Dreame support has stepped in and has been nothing but pleasant to work with. I wanna be clear the 5 stars are for Dreame and the L40. Their customer support and their vacuum have been a dream to work with it. I can not recommend them enough. If you are on the fence about buying a robot vacuum from Dreame, I would say pull the trigger. The vacuum is top-of-the-line filled with the best tech. Customer support has been fast to reply and very easy to work with. Until the X50 comes out I am staying with the L40.*********Update*********Still one of the best robot vacumes you can buy hands down and I would buy it again if the X50 was not out :) (I would love to review the X50 Dreame if you are listing) and it seems to be improving itself like it is learning, hear me out. I have two small dogs one that is afraid of its own shadow and another one who could care less about the vacuum. When I 1st got it I was cautious around both both dogs taking what seems like 1000 of pictures of them, even if they were not in the frame all the way. It would slow down if they walked in front of it, it would give them both a wide birth as if it was unsure as to how the dogs would react. Fast forward to today and I no longer get out of 100 pics of them in the app. The vacuum knows that it can get right up next to my dog who does not care and clean around her. But it knows to slow down when the other dog is laying in the middle of the floor because it knows he will get scared and move at the last minute. I swear iuts almost like it is learning and thinking.

Amazing
I'm in love with this. My old robot vacuum had succumbed to the wear and tear. Had a broken wheel, the main brush had broken in the holder so I had to whittle new ones to fit into the spot and I desperately did not want to replace it - it is still in my garage... I loved it. This robot vacuum is an amazing upgrade. It has only got stuck on items twice in two months and those were really understandable items. It avoids everything I need it to avoid. It mops my floors beautifully. It tells me when the floor is dirty and needs a second mopping. It takes pictures if obstacles and my pets! It takes videos of my pets. Even with hair wrap... Sometimes hair gets around the main brush but it is really easy to get off and it is infinitely better than any vacuum I've ever had. I did buy the tri cut brush but haven't felt the need to install it. I'll use it when the original brush needs replacement. Maintenance on the base station is great too - super easy to clean. It even has the ability to be hooked up to a water line and drain so you don't have to fill the tank and empty it. This is an additional charge and would require plumbing or an existing location but it is possible. The tanks usually last two days for my house and they are super easy to empty and fill. The robot overall is quiet though I have noticed the extendable arm has started to squeak a little but it doesn't bother me. I got this robot for $500 which is a steal. For full price it would still be worth it.

Probably the best choice out there (December 2024)
Robot floor cleaning technology has definitely improved a lot since I purchased my old Sharp vacuum only robot. But which one to choose in December 2024? I'm something of a gadget guy and when I purchase something like this, I like to do my research. I'd recommend a couple of youtube channels that will help, "Vacuum Wars" and "Just a Dad". At the time of writing, the Dreame L40 ultra was ranked third on Vacuum wars, behind two Roborock vacuums. After using this Dreame, I'd have to say I rank it at the top.The three robots i considered were the three rated best by Vacuum Wars. Namely the Roborock Qrevo Curv, the Roborock Qrevo Slim and this Dreame L40 Ultra. I rejected the Curv because it doesn't have the greatest obstacle avoidance. We have a lot of extension cords on our floor at home. Plus, the Curv was an extra $250 over the Dreame. So, I got the Dreame and set it up. Initial impressions were positive, but I soon hit a snag. During the first mapping I left a bedroom door closed. Didn’t appear to be a problem. The Dreame successfully cleaned the house rooms it had access to. However, later when I opened the final door, the Dreame went down the hallway to the bedroom and got confused. It forgot its existing map, forgot the base station location and started creating a new map from scratch. I wasn’t sure what was going on, so I emailed Dreame technical support. They were responsive but could not provide a solution. My initial thought was that perhaps there was a Wi-Fi problem at that end of the house, but the solution turned out to be to rerun the mapping from scratch. I concluded that the Dreame software is written such that once the floor map is finalized, only small modifications can me made to it from then on. Moral of this story: when you first run your Dreame L40, make sure it has access to all the rooms that you want it to clean. Since then, it has been running fine and cleans all rooms without getting lost. It’s nice to be able to select specific rooms for a cleaning cycle. Before I resolved the above problem, I ordered a Roborock Qrevo Slim so as to not to miss the black Friday price. Hence, I was able to compare the two and choose which to keep. Both vacuums clean very well but the Dreame definitely has the edge in obstacle avoidance. After the Slim climbed onto wires in our family room for the sixth time and tried to eat a power adapter, the choice became clear. Also, the Slim had some bugs in its Android app such that it would not let me rename a room. The room count is limited to 15 for the Roborock app. The Dreame does not have these problems. I also like the fact that the Dreame has a cleaning solution tank and can mix this into the water automatically. Plus, the Dreame just looks better. The Dreame L40 Ultra won. The Roborock Qrevo Slim was returned.

Stalls
Set it up last night. At first was impressed with the auto mapping function. But as soon as I sent it to do a cleaning job it would just stop and stall there as if it saw a ghost. No obstacles, just stop. This has so far happened on every single test despite zero obstacles.
